To Cruise or Not to Cruise

TL;DR: No, I would not cruise again.

The long story?

Every year my girlfriends and I take a weekend trip together. This year, we chose to do a 3-day cruise to Ensenada. I had never been on one before and was a little apprehensive at the thought of being stuck on a boat in the ocean for days. I was also nervous my motion sickness would get in the way. Nevertheless, it was the most affordable vacation option for all of us so we went for it. To get an idea of cost, I think it cost about $190 per person for the cruise - it was in February so the waters were a bit choppy and it was on and off rainy and windy.

Ain’t she a beauty?

Once the girls and I reunited in Long Beach, we boarded the boat and got to drinking. It is nicknamed a booze cruise after all. It was fun while the boat was docked but when it began moving, the girls and I started to feel nauseous. It stayed that way until we docked in Ensenada. So we were on a steady stream of Dramamine.

Because of the nausea, I don’t think we were able to take full advantage of the cruise’s amenities. The weather was poor (cold and rainy), which meant sunbathing on the deck wasn’t really an option. And I mean, I still ate food (pizza, bacon, cake, fried chicken, some fruit…) and had a few drinks (wine, pina colada…) but not to the extent I was anticipating. But worry not, we made up for all of this while in Ensenada.

Okay, I’m sharing this because it’s weird. Basically, the picture of me above was taken as we were getting off the ship. I was alongside all my girlfriends and yet they chose to zoom in on my face, make it black and white, and print it out as a large photo. Why? I don’t know. All I know is that it’s an unflattering photo of me and it provided a lot of laughs when my girlfriends stumbled upon it.

We went ATVing, which was awesome. Had never been before. I totally recommend it! After our tour, we pit-stopped at a wine tasting and then a tequila tasting...and did I mention we drove everywhere? Maybe not the best idea ever.

But oh man, we also stopped for lunch at this awesome tent-like restaurant. The tacos were so good. So were the quesadillas. The salsa was spicy as hell. I wish I could remember the name of the place - our tour guide recommended it to us.

At the end of the day, I had a lot of fun with my girlfriends. Complaining about our sea sickness really brought us closer. But I think I’d skip the cruise and just fly/drive to Ensenada. That place was fun.

Last thing! Once we got back to Long Beach, we stopped by this bakery that my friend suggested. It was amazingly delicious. If you’re in the area, go to Sweet Jill’s Bakery.

So good. So so sooooooo good.
