Elegant Ears and the Perils of No Makeup
Since a lot of my wardrobe is made up of basics, there’s a good chance that if I don’t apply makeup or style my hair, I look kind of frumpy. At work, someone might even come up and ask me if I’m feeling unwell or tell me that I look tired...Sometimes I may actually be feeling under the weather, but a majority of the time I just slept in too late or stood in the shower for too long that morning.
To avoid having to address those questions, I often carry a pair of straight stuntin’ earrings with me. They might live at the bottom of my purse or in the cup holder of my car. I usually have a lipstick with me as well, but there are days when I don’t feel like wearing makeup at all.
Because I’m not always the best at keeping track of things, I usually opt for inexpensive earrings. I also like earrings that aren’t too heavy. And, since I often wear earrings when I want to dress up a simple look, I am a fan of pieces with texture, color, and shape.

Where can you find trendy, really affordable earrings? I like Target, Old Navy, and Forever 21. Amazon has some really cute ones with fun themes as well. Sometimes you can find Sale earrings at Zara or Madewell. Just be aware that if you’re buying earrings that cost like $10 USD, they might not last long and may not be comfortable for sensitive ears. You could try putting some clear nail polish on the parts that come in contact with your ears, but it’s not a guaranteed fix.
For better quality earrings (hint: not as cheap), I like to visit boutiques like Francesca’s and Therapy. I also like to explore Etsy. People make such beautifully crafted earrings. It’s art for your ears!
Friendly heads up: Watch for the rabbit hole. Hunting for inexpensive earrings online can become a habit. Since they don’t require you to consider your size of the way it will fit, it’s easy to fall in love with a lot of them and even easier to click ‘Buy’. Don’t get too sucked in - save some of that money for shoes!
